Kenji Carp Balance Protocols

"The Shuttle Balance provides the capability to safely tax the stabilizing musculature in support of the rehabilitating joint. In addition, it assists in developing the balance and proprioception skill from the elite athlete to the frail geriatric."

Progressing the Balance

In this video, Kenji demonstrates how you can familiarize the patient or athlete with the Shuttle Balance. He takes you through the natural progression of training, beginning at the platform’s most stable, proceeding to increasing instability, and, ultimately, providing perturbation.

Dynamic Training on the Balance

The Shuttle Balance gives you full range of motion in your balance training: front to back, side to side, diagonally. It also allows you to adjust the platform so you can have surface tilt.

Advanced Proprioception

While athletes will rarely meet an unstable surface such as the Balance in their games, their increased proprioceptive ability developed from these protocols will serve to improve their game day performance.

Upper Body Proprioception

Here we see the use of a Plyoback Rebounder used in tandem with the Shuttle Balance to progress an athlete through protocols to strengthen the core and develop proprioceptive ability during upper body movement.

Stepping on the Balance

One of the biggest challenges for the post-surgical patients can be managing stairs. Here we see the protocol progression to assist the patient with the stepping ability.

Vestibular and Vertigo

The Shuttle Balance allows you to work with patients who suffer from vertigo or vestibular problems by providing a safe, yet unstable, surface that can simulate a slip or fall.

Neck Injury and Stroke Perturbation

A new way to recreate the circumstances around a neck/cervical injury that then allow the patient's body to reestablish and develop neuromuscular responses to recover and prevent injury again.
